| I find it interesting that an 8th grader would be given a problem that requires calculus to answer if you don't want to just try various scenarios until you get close enough to the ideal answer to call it good. The link above shows the calculus required to solve the problem as efficiently as possible. Are they teaching calculus in 8th grade now? If so, I'm fairly impressed with that school.
