Pilot Grove, Missouri
I know what you mean. A few years ago I cleaned up some CRP and brought it back into production. It had been neglected and grew up in a lot of small trees. Most of the trees I pulled with a puller, which left the ground really rough. Drilled beans on it first, then wheat that fall and had to go extra slow with every field operation. After wheat harvest I hooked up the heavy disk and worked it 3 times to smooth it up. The whole time I was disking, I felt bad. I kinda enjoyed it (haven't worked any ground for several years) but it just felt wrong. I also hated to destroy the soil structure from years of CRP, but it was just too rough to deal with. Sometimes we just have to do what we have to do. Even if it feels wrong. Patrick
