Callao, Missouri | Last year I flew cereal rye into corn and milo. The corn was starting to brown but the milo was very much still green. The green, dense leaves of the milo (30" rows) caught a lot of the seed from aerial application and I think killed most of the rye after emergence due to lack of light from the denser and lower canopy.
The rye in the corn stand was great but the only place you can find rye in the milo stubble today is where the milo had a poor stand.
I planted my milo at about 95k, you probably plant lighter so shading wouldn't be so detrimental. I am going to try again this year, but delay application to my milo by a few weeks. | |
