Subject: Running beef and dairy heifers together?

West Central Wisconsin
Looks like the end is near for dairy on the farm and brother wants to expand into raising beef. We've been finishing out our dairy steers at one farm for 15+ years but never had any of the beef breeds. We will buy additional feeders at this location. We have pasture with creek, silos and buildings at our present dairy facility and am thinking of getting some yearling beef heifers to utilize at this location and start a beef herd. We will keep the dairy heifers at this site and sell them out as springing heifers until gone. My question is do you see any problems running beef and dairy heifers together for a couple years? Should they be pastured separately? One concern is the size difference when the beef would come into heat. Any other concerns? Joe
