transition to new email addresses

Ask your ISP but I don't think you have too, you might be able to keep your email address for longer, or at worst, you'll have it locked down to give you time to move your inbox to another provider.

Never ever use your Internet provider's email address anyway, get one at Google Gmail or Microsoft Outlook for instance, or get your own domain for $5 per year and your own web site and email address at a web hosting company such as 1&1 or GoDaddy for about the same amount per month, anything that is independent from your ISP. Even if you change hosting company, you retain your domain. By the way, GoDaddy offers .farm domains of your choice for about $40 per year, more expensive than a .com domain, but more catchy.
