Subject: RE: Need to find an ISP--cellular or satellite?

Bremen, KS
There is a landline, POTS--Plain Old Telephone Service--and nothing more. No hope of DSL as we're too far from the central office in Hanover, perhaps seven to eight cable miles, maybe more. Years back AT&T (nee SWBC) put in a SMAZ (aggregates many lines into fewer lines) one mile west of Bremen and for that reason we couldn't get faster than 24 kbps on dialup years back. It really is a poor cable plant, perhaps among the worst in the state at least.

Everyone of my neighbors is in the same boat unless they happen to live within the new magical five mile radius of the towers near Marysville and Hanover. They are terminating service from the tower near Bremen which is about halfway between the other two and selling the tower, apparently, which is why so many of us will suddenly be left with no service and were given less than sixty days to find other service and transition to new email addresses., etc The suddenness of this cutoff is what really caught us all off guard and is generating no shortage of ill will toward a local company, all of which could have been avoided with better communication beginning several months ago. Running a business in rural Kansas is difficult enough, alienating a customer base just boggles my mind.
