I farm 1500 and have a 24R30 planter, Overkill probably but I run a 12 row head on the combine an planting 16 combining 12 just don't work that great (tried one year) and was not super happy with the results. Another thing it is just my Dad and I that do it all including spreading all the fertilizer so that takes several days each spring also when I could possibly be planting, however it works good for me cause I refuse to apply fertilizer in advance cause 1 big rain and I can loss 10-15% of my acres and not see them again for another year so I don't like putting a lot of fertilizer out there in advance, also I am a one man band during planting and field prep keeps Dad busy especially with the larger planter he keeps up but not by a lot.
