Mid-Michigan | After reading all the replies (to this point) I guess it depends on your cash flow. Using the idea of it sits around too much to be practical isn't really a valid excuse (at least here on our farm). Half the expensive crap I own is sitting in the shed while the sparrow crap on it! I guess I look at it this way: you have to have the stuff to get this job (farming) done. Does it have to be the best? No. If you are happy with hiring trucks (sounds like you are not), then continue. If not, spend 50 or 60 and get a real road worthy truck and your maintenance will be lower. Or do like most farmers and buy an 850,000 + mi truck and start working. Then tires. Then brakes. Then radiator. Then tires again etc. Don't forget insurance and plates. And there is a little learning curve from straight truck to trac./trailer. Good luck. Lots of good advice from guys. | |
