Geuda Springs, Kansas | It is always interesting to hear from you guys up north on this issue. There is absolutely no way I could get a trucking company to haul grain out of the field. That option is just not there so there for owning trucks is a must. A lot of guys have commented that a truck has to have a driver. That is absolutely correct. If I have a limited amount of drivers I would rather them hauling 80,000 to the elevator than hauling 50,000 with a tandom.
Another thing to think about. The old Chevy Tandom we had before it caught on fire would get about 4mpg if your were lucky. My 96 Ford L9000 with the N14 gets around 9 on really tough hauls pulling 80,000 versus 50,000.
I guess the trucking deal to me is more like the custom farming thing. Custom farming sounds like a great Idea, until the guy is two weeks late harvesting your crop. I cannot be waiting to harvest because the trucks didnt show up that day to haul my grain. | |
