I think you will get the biggest bang for the buck if you plant corn. I've done both. I would kill the sod as early as you possibly can, it will help loosen the mat of roots that u have to cut through and then close. I would use roundup and some residual maybe atrazine to prevent any regrowth before you plant. If it's nice and smooth I would never plow it, you are starting out with the perfect seedbed. Just make sure you get good penetration with your seed opener and get the seed trench closed or you will have a disaster. You could potentially have a problem with a heavy LIVE root mass, just depends how thick your grass stand is. I've seen some of my best corn planted in what you are going to try, and again, my conditions and my soils.
