Otherwise, Mathnasium is a good program. Or Sylvan.

My daughter, who is now in college, had those issues. As I am somewhat of a math geek, I made it into common sense word type problems for her. And she figured it out and now is doing fine. Thing like this:

given question 2(a+b)=?

My version

If I tell you i will give you and your brother twice the money you save on your own to go to the fair, how much money will I need?

a=you
b=brother

so twice yoiurs, 2a and twice your brothers 2b, and add em togheter, right? so 2(a+b)=2a+2b

Took time and patience, but she is in college now and got an A in the first math class she had.
