SE IL and SW IN | I do not fault the schools or the system, but most classrooms shoot for the middle of the class, hoping to get the most bang for the buck. Because of this, most students have problems with some subjects in their classroom career. I am a firm believer in the strategy of getting the best professional help available when a student falls behind. We have used some of the internet programs with success, but I prefer some sessions with a caring and qualified professional.
a few years ago, I became acquainted with a Special Ed teacher who did a fair amount of math tutoring. He always did it away from school, usually the local library. He insisted the students bring their school backpack with its full contents. The first few sessions were spent mostly on organization and executive skills. When the student understood that A comes first then B, then C, and in a neat environment, the math became almost easy. I was always amazed how quickly students graduated from his tutoring program.
