N FLA | Bought this pair at auction for $1130. Had a couple day old heifer calf. Story I got was cow was delivered to be commingled with other packer cows and hauled from sale barn to Brown Packers. I assume owner was selling on rail. Auction owner said she calved before getting on the truck. And prolapsed in labor. He had the vet to stitch up and sold at following sale. No more details. Not sure why they were selling a 9m bred cow for slaughter. Never know around here.
My hunch at the time was that the vet probably took care of things. And I could take her to feed silage where there was no bull and put 120 days on the calf.I didn't know anything about prolapse and really still don't.
I hate to take these back as a slaughter cow and feeder heifer because I really want a herd of these. But I think I better take the money and run. Anybody care to share experience of prolapse. What is the real likelihood of this heifer having problems? Would be nice to sell the cow and keep a free heifer.
