Subject: well/irrigation machinery. max gpm out of 8" well and drilling cost

This is my first rodeo with well drilling. I got lucky. My dad had a 6" well that he used to water his nursery, which he doesnt use anymore.

I spent about 8k to make it a 8" well. (200'). Per the pump test the current pump is doing 350 gpm. Going with his calculations he says well is capable of 620 GPM, but I need a 12" well to get a pump big enough for that. Estimate is 16-17k to make it a 12". Then a 48hr pump test at $150/hr.

Is it true that you cant get a 6" 3phase well pump to do more than 400 gpm? What are drilling cost in your area?

I need right at 500 GPM. Located N. Al.
