I kinda had to chuckle on this from a past experience...to answer your question, I think it lessens the probability...I know it deters kids who want to TP ( toilet paper ) the yards, hehehehehehh

When I worked at the dealership we had a black lab that had the run of the dealership and boss kept him locked in the store / shop all night, one of those BIG BABY type dogs that would lick and love you to death vs bite ( our mascot if you will ) . Anyhow we had lawnmowers parked out front for sale, the storefront had large glass windows with glass door, and one day when we all came in one morning , noticed 4 of the garden tractors were gone ( stolen ) , we knew there was nothing that the dog could have done, but we are pretty confident this dog sat there wagging his tail sitting there watching the whole thing and probably was sulking when they left because no one came in pet him. :-)

Haha guy up the road from me had a lab that loved to ride in the truck. Well he had his pick up stole in the middle of the night. Had it parked on the other side of a shed. He couldn't find his truck or his dog any where. He called the cops and maybe 4 hours later they found the truck in the next county with the dog in the truck! We still laugh that the robber got in and the dog crawled over his lap to get in and go for a ride!!
