Subject: RE: Expanding cow herd

Whats with all the ragging on the OP's maternal herd choice? Most of you who did aren't even from the same region. Have you been to Iowa lately? There appeared to be a large amount of corn that would make cheap feed either chopped or shelled. What I failed to see was an abundance of rolling pasture ground. Different sized cows work in different places. Take a cow out of the small paddocks in corn country and put it in the BLM units in Nevada or vice versa and you get the picture.

Good luck expanding your herd this year. Might not seem like the best short term decision now, but you can weather a pretty big downturn in the market in four years if you have a young herd instead of a bunch of broken down cows that aren't worth $800.
