SO what do your calves weigh directly off the cow with no creep feeding at around 220 days?  And what is your calf weight percentage to cow weight at that time?

Only calves I have seen beat a Angus:Red Angus/ Herf cross is a Charolais calf out of one of those white face cows from that cross.

Other than just weight frame is just as important, I've seen a cow running 1300lbs right after weaning and the same one can push 2K if she lost a calf early and didn't breed back.  She is a larger frame than a cow that will be closer to 1100 after weaning and at her biggest a 1500lb cow.  That same cow will easily hit 1100lbs right before her first calf if she isn't starved or too young.  Most will be back either side of 1K lbs when they are weaned of that first years calf.
