....why you want to cross a British breed with another British breed why not put some Continental breeding in there. Were breeding for pounds arnt we only with Continental are you going to get that.



I absolutely understand what you're saying, but I disagree, and I disagree because of expirence.

A British on British mother (angus x Hereford, or something similar) has proven to create a superb maternal cow with the frame size that many herdsmen in the northern plains are looking for. Throwing a continental bull throws a great cross, but comes at the expense of higher calving difficulty, and most importantly, buyers 'here' have shown preference for angus sired calves. It's a market driven decision.

Char crosses do create awesome calves, and from the 70's til maybe 10 years ago they dominated here. But, higher calving difficutly is why many went away from that.
