n.c.iowa | have looked at a lot of different barns over the years and you are right beef biz, I see a lot more problems in mono's wider than 50 in iowa. not saying it can't work, just takes more management. I also agree that barn's like dave's looks very nice-- once visited a farm that was a large dairy, and they had a HUGE hoop building to raise started Holstein steers up to about 600 lbs, had a center feed alley, and the whole smeel, asked him what the cost per head space was, it was a number that was shockingly high. keep in mind someday you gotta pay for the darned thing. taj mahal buildings probably aren't necessary in production beef. correctly designed and affordable ones are. there have been a couple of garvo style buildings erected locally in the last couple of years here, one faces south, the other faces east, been keeping a close eye on them myself. |
