Thumb Crop Farmer
Posted 8/27/2014 20:21 (#4041933 - in reply to #4041342)
Subject: RE: I have seen several situations

Thumb of Michigan
1. Mom and dad have since cash crop farm plus certified seeds, son goes to medical school never to be seen again. His parents are in their late 80's still working the ground. These parents are well off and dont need to farm, many of us at 18 would have died to get into this type of operation.

2. Grand dad of huge cash crop operation, gives shares to the grand sons and they vote along w/ their dad and grandad to kick out 2 other brothers. Very sucessful operation, so much for a "family farm". Just greed.

3. There are some farm operations where the sons take over prin responsibilities while in their early 30's.

4. Several guys marry into a large farm operation, work there for 20+ years and get divorced and lose everything.
