I do see the opposite all the time. I have a neighbor who's in his late forties. No girlfriend, no kids, no intention for family. He's got a father 84 years old still out there picking weeds on his hands and knees. Says he's not interested in marriage, "too much to lose", "don't want to lose my land".
Who knows.. when he's gone.. my sons may be farming his land.
I'm the 3rd and last generation here. Much like your late 40s neighbor, just a little older. Never married, no kids. Ditto for my sister.
So I sold out to the next door neighbors and someday one of their grandkids will be running this place.
Not sure which one, but right now I'd bet on the granddaughter that is a college senior. She is a real go-getter, and Grandpa and Grandma's right hand gal through the summer and on long weekends. |
