Subject: RE: How many acres to justify a 12 row planter

w/c Illinois

I farm 500 acres (no till, by myself) 50/50 corn and beans.  I got a 12 row 7200 for corn to make my 6/11 Kinze last longer, as I was wearing it out planting both crops. I wasn't sure I needed a 12 row for 250 acres of corn, but the three years that I've used it have been really tough springs.  I'm pretty sure I've paid for it in timelier planting, and in two of the past three years I wouldn't have gotten all of my corn in without it.  When you operate a one-man-band, you have to play all of the instruments yourself, and it's hard to play more than one at a time.  Every situation is different, but now I'm wishing my bean planter was an 8/15.
