Subject: RE: John Deere Aerial Imagery

Nutbush, TN
I think aerial imagery does have it's place, especially in high input crops, like cotton. You really dont see much financial return from VR PGR's, but you really see your cost savings in defoliant.

I am a firm believer in the use of Veris machine in mapping soil EC data. These maps are much more detailed and accurate than the soil type maps found in county soil survey books. This EC data is extremely useful when applying VR fertilizer, especially N.

If you compare NDVI's taken during the growing season, they nearly match up with the EC Veris data. I am thinking one could use EC data in making management zones for the application of PGR and defoliant, but you will physically have to "ground truth" the zones in order to determine your rate.

Plus Veris data is a one time investment, and the data is good as long as you don't do any kind of land levelling.
