A couple of APEX solutions for you. Number one...yes, it is extremely memory hungry. Don't run it on a machine that is 3 years old. You'll hate that completely. The minimum recommended size is 512mb of RAM, 1 gig is good,2 is great. Second, when you set up APEX is sets the default ammount of memory available to be used by APEX to 64mb. If you go to the top left of the program to file and then preferences, slide the tab over to atleast 256 if not to unlimited. That allows you to open more maps and often prevents lock ups. Finally, when downloading, check to see what you have for a card reader. If you aren't using a laptop, you probably have a USB card reader. Not all USB's are equal. There is regular and high speed. If you don't have a high speed USB, plan on delayed download time. The problem isn't APEX, it's the port you're using. Finally, if you choose to purchase a larger card for memory, keep in mind that the largest recommended for a GS1 is 64mb and a GS2 is 1 gig. If you go beyond that it can cause problems, I've never seen it cause problems, but have heard it does. Also keep in mind that several programs are limited to 1500 acres without the card being cleared, regardless of memory used. Best practice is to download your info as often as possible.
