Ok, I did this for a living for a few years. We had a 2 inch pump for the bad ones, a 1 inch gas pump for the flatwork crew, and several sump pumps. We always used the sump pit, it should have been installed when the footing was put in. It you have no sump pit, or a daylight drain, then you need to fire your contractor ASAP. We always did this when the footings were installed, because we knew the hole had a good chance of filing with water. Any good/experienced Basment guy knows this.
