South Texas | Local dealer had one pulled apart one time that I was walking through the shop... I asked what the deal was, as I own the same tractor. Tech that has been there for many years showed me the cracked frame and said they had seen a handful of them throughout the years.
He claims the ones he fixed were caused by a combination of 3 point equipment and farmers running without the bottom plate, most think it is just a cover. It is structural as another poster said.
I always make it a point now to put the bottom plate back on after seeing how tore down that tractor was.
