The rolling has exploded here. I own a roller and think it is the best piece of equipment I own for saving time, money on repairs etc. It does push down the smaller rocks so they do not go into the header when harvesting. They also breakup the corn root balls so that they do not get into the combine and if they do they are not loaded with dirt. Corn stalks also seem to be no spearing issue on the guards, after I started rolling I think I may spear 1 or two stalks/year on approximately 300A of last years corn ground. I was also having a lot of dirt in the combine from wheat root balls getting into the combine, again not a problem now.

It is to the point if a neighbor asks for combining help with soybeans, first thing I ask is, "Did you land roll?" If not the price goes up because I cannot get as good a job and a lot more dirt goes through the combine.

Some seem to think it helps the seed to soil contact for emergence as well.
