just talked to an agronomist about this the other day. he saw a farmer in central MN last year that rolled his beans when they were up, probably in the 6-8" range. must have bruised or kinked the stems because as the beans grew taller, they started to tip over, much like hail damaged ones. If you are going to roll emerged beans make sure it is a warm day and I pry wouldn't do it after they were more than a few inches tall
