Subject: CIH - RID gauge wheels

St.Marys Ontario
Need advice on RID ( reduced inner diameter) gauge wheel tires on a JD corn planter. Here's the story: I have a JD 1760 planter setup with the Martin system complete with RID gauge wheels. Have always been told and believed that RID gauge wheels were the way to go. Have also read some material that would suggest that this may not work in some soil types. I have noticed that some seeds appear to not end up in a perfectly straight line in the bottom of the seed trench. Could the loose soil on the seed trench walls be allowing seeds to sneak around the Keaton seed firmers? I have the original gauge wheel tires in the barn and am considering putting them on the planter so as to give a firmer seed trench wall. Soil type is mostly silt loam and clay loam. Open to any suggestions.
