“These are the times that try men's souls.” | I agree with everything stated here. We have the unique opportunity to run on winter ranges that provide all the salt, minerals cattle need. We have even tried to feed lick tubs, Loomix, etc. and cattle might eat a little of it, but never enough to warrant putting it out for them on an extended time frame. I love to make bets with feed salesmen, they say my cattle will eat thier lick, and minerals without a doubt! I tell them your on, we put it out and they won't touch the stuff. They can't believe it.
But bring those same cattle twenty miles north to home place, and they eat it just fine. And I feel they need some supplement while on those ranges. Certain times of the year our cattle won't eat minerals, when spring grass goes to green up they won't touch it if they had it in front of them all winter. |
