| Good advice below is to pick your network first. I switched to AT&T to get the iphone, but after a year I was so fed up with their lack of coverage and other Apple issues I went to a Droid X.
I can't say it is as smooth as the iphone, but I like the way things work on it. What I like the best is the bigger screen. For someone who needs reading glasses more and more the larger screen is a benefit. Plus for me is the charger for the X also charges my bluetooth when I need to.
Don't know about your carrier and if US phones will work up there, but if you are interested I have a 3GS Iphone that was only used a year. Carried it in my shirt pocket so it's not all scratched up, looks and works like new.
