the quality of the Android experience is also more variable because of the variety of hardware on which the OS runs. My wife has a Droid2 and has experienced a number of issues, including the fact that even when plugged in, her battery will drain if she is streaming Pandora, etc. Her sister has had similar issues with her Droid2. I have an HTC Incredible and have had next to zero problems. All the phones are running Froyo.

you could make a Mac/Windows analogy here. Macs are known for reliability and a very clean user experience, at the expense of user control. The Windows OS provides the user with much more control over the system, but at the expense of a very tightly integrated system. You pays your money and takes your choice. Neither system is perfect, and neither is the piece of junk that detractors may claim.
