| As markets go down below profit level, producers begin leaving. If you start while on the downside you can be in position for the upside. But there are many other factors to consider. One, an abundance of pasture and hay we have available. Sepciality markets, we are seeing a growing trend in our area of people wanting to know where their food came from. Farmer's markets are flourishing here with two folks I know of unable to meet demand- even at higher prices than the big chain stores. So I am not looking at salebarn markets but more niche markets or direct sales. I am also not looking to raise hundreds or thousands of head. Because of the niche market, I need to know my product from birth to finished market animal. | |
