You may think that new isn't practical or affordable at this point but when you finish with that old house you will feel differently. It might take 30 years but by then you will look at the money you spent now and over the next 30 years for upkeep and wish you had built new. If you can't afford it you can't afford it. I get that. When all is said and done you will have spent a ton of money on an old house and still have an old house. I have first hand experience with this. We fixed up an old house about 40 years ago and eventually built a new one because we realized we still had an old house with old house issues.
