Iowa | Could you start by working with the kid an hour or two per day? You could have him tag along while you work on various projects or whatever you are doing. That way, he could learn from you and provide an extra set of hands as needed. Maybe you could teach him to run some equipment (depending on what his skills allow) and let him go for an hour or two while you take care of some other business. You may or may not get your money's worth of help by doing this, but the kid will probably learn something from you, and you will possibly get to know your neighbors a little better. Maybe you'll learn something too. It's not all about the money. Just be careful and be aware of any liability issues involved.
Edit to add: I don't have much real experience in these regards. Those that I have worked with have been exceptional individuals.
