Really? I've sold things as large as a tractor on craigslist, and taken checks for most things. Not all the time, but anyone who is going to show up and buy a tractor or chisel plow is probably verifiable with a phone call or two. Usually though, after talking to a guy for two minutes you can tell if you should take a check or not.
