Also, the trailing gauge wheels helps reduce the negative affect of wear on the gauge wheel arm pivots. As they wear, the wheel is pushed towards the openers, not away. As for your question on "ground contact" I believe it is better due to the narrow trench, not due to the trailed vs pushed gauge wheels. The desired end result of consistent seed depth is really what matters, and ground contact is only a piece of the puzzle. | |
