East Central South Dakota | Everyone has to manage and be comfortable in how they handle their own business. For me, the value of my assets does not have much bearing on asset acquisition or the statement of operations. Paper doesn't put food on the table or increase my revenue. The 80's crisis was led by a loss of equity on the balance sheet that lead to insolvency. This time around I believe it will be a damning up of the revenue stream-------no cash to service debt or to put a crop in. Machinery, land and operating debt has to be serviced with after tax revenue------not paper wealth (long term anyway). If the revenue stream begins to run bloody by spread sheet red ink, debt service becomes an issue------regardless how rich the paper says you are. At 53 I am to old to start over and I am unwilling to over leverage a farm that we homesteaded on five generations ago------------I guess I have aged into somewhat of a chicken little I suppose. |
