Western Oregon | Here, we went to diesel tandems in 1973. 9500 GMCs with 6-71s and 9 speeds. We needed bigger trucks to haul seed, fertilizer, water tanks for spraying, hauling silage and grain to the bins. Mounted light weight Merritt aluminum beds and hoists, then bought 20-24' aluminum belly dump pull trailers to haul to the docks. When they weren't busy we hauled for neighbors, then started hauling our own commodities, oats to Idaho, Christmas trees to California. It was a natural progression to bigger motors and semis with super trains (40'er with the 20-24' pull trailer). 102,000 lbs with 8v-92 GMC Astros and 18 speeds. Last farm trucks were 4 axle, 26' bed pulling 35' hoppers....James | |
