With regards to hauling big loads there aren't a lot of times a pickup will go where a semi won't. For other purposes though I agree.

I think people out work 3/4 and 1 ton trucks too often. Plenty of power not enough weight and brakes.

As far as ride quality. I'm more comfy in a Diamond interior KW than our pickups especially when towing. Get a truck with a short sleeper and decent wheelbase and you will be amazed how nice they ride. Lots of guys get 180" trucks with SBA s then complain about the ride. You can go a lot of places with a 210-240" wheelbase just fine and not be picking your kidneys off the floor at the end of the day.
