Bow Island, Alberta | The last few years we have been hauling more grain, and for longer distances. Some of it goes to a location only a few miles away, so tandem trucks work well for that. Anything farther away, I have been hiring a local trucking company that has a number of super-b's available (1600 bu wheat). The trucking bill last year was over $20,000. At what point do you think it becomes feasible to own my own tractor unit, with either with a tridem trailer or super-b?

Edited to add: we have numerous tandem trucks available at harvest time, so a semi would supplement the trucking capacity, but not really necessary.
Does anyone have a good handle on operating costs, such as fuel and repairs?
