Fruita CO | Chester was a good soul, and loyal to Marshal Dillon. Festus was too, in his own way, but a more complicated character. Ken Curtis was a talented guy, he played several other people on Gunsmoke before Festus. He was a member of the Sons of the Pioneers, good singer. Also a native of Lamar, Colorado. . .
My high school English teacher said Festus' accent was an exaggerated Southern Colorado accent, I didn't believe her until I met some guys from down there. . .
