Subject: Pride goes before a fall

Is the freezer the only issue of going up and down stairs? If so, maybe just get a small freezer and tell them it’s helping out a friend that no longer needs it. Don’t belabor the point of them on the stairs. They need to come around to it themselves ( pride, which we all have)

Now if it’s other trips, laundry, other things in basement they think they have to be down there for.....that’s going to be trickier. Still comes down to finding a way they come around to accepting “help”

Could always put the fear of......if you break a hip, from falling on that stairs, you’ll go to a nursing home, there’s no way we can take care of you at home. Maybe work, maybe not.

My dad ended up at the foot of the basement stairs. He didn't break anything, luckily, but it was really unfair to my mother who was trying to take care of him. No one needs the additional stress.

From Proverbs16:

18Pride goes before destruction,

a haughty spirit before a fall.
