Central Iowa
Wait so you attended one class and now are prepared to declare all of ISOBUS "the biggest technical flop in Ag"? So I assume the class covered the 'what' for an hour but not the 'why'? So here's the short answer…powered machinery can kill people…bank software can not. ISOBUS is complicated because it is a deterministic system that is easy to model and predict unlike TCP/IP. Point to anything in the ISOBUS standard that you think is fluff.

I sure would hate to have my tractor's engine controller stop receiving commands from the throttle controller every time a field picture is sent to a display which could happen with your proposal to move away from CAN.

Do I think you could implement a CAN driver per ISOBUS with VT support…sure…in a year's development time no. Do I think there should be a standardized data centric bus like TCP/IP on a tractor for non control related data, yes but its going to be a few years. Is this new bus going to be called ISOBUS2…haha I doubt it but who knows.
