Tuscola, IL | Actually did the same thing last year. Had truck licensed in 2018 and 2020. Didn’t use it in 2019. Just bought new plates in September 2020 and didn’t have to pay any more than if we had. DMV is basically like DOT. It depends on who you get, when you get them and how they want to interpret the law that day.
That said, have not had an issue with local DMV but, probably let more things slide in a town of <5000 than the ones in the cities would. I don’t know what the actual law/rule is but, I’d approach it as the pandemic prevented it from being registered. If that doesn’t work, come back the next day or go to a different DMV and tell them it was out of use for that year. | |
