The main purpose of the powder was because especially when new the box would be hard to take off the base unit. this was because the rubber seals on the base unit would be rough, stiff, and hard so when you tried to remove the top container the rubber seals would lock to the top container. Also it is good maintenance practice to keep the seals in shape on both units.
