| FHB is favored by 60-85F temperatures, which must coincide with frequent rainfall/high humidity during, and soon after wheat flowering. FHB also requires moisture 1-2 weeks ahead of flowering for the fusarium spores to germinate (ready to be splashed onto the heads during and/or soon after flowering). Cool temperatures are NOT good for fusarium development within the heads, but remember other foliar diseases like stripe rust thrive in 45-55F temperatures, followed by glume blotch which thrives in 65-75F temps.
SO, when you apply the Caramba/Prosaro/Miravis Ace around flowering, your also protecting the head and upper leaves from many other diseases, not just FHB. | |
