Paying cash is NOT illegal. Last I checked, actual dollars are legal tender. You can legally pay up $600 without issuing a 1099. Over that a 1099 is required. Said help would have to report their income and pay said taxes. Under $600, their problem to self report. Over $600 1099 is issued and now there’s a paper trail foe irs to check against.

We have a lot of fill in helpers here. Mostly high school kids. Most only out in 4-8 hrs a week.

Forgot to answer the question! $15hr cash is about $23/hr with taxes not taken out. 7% on both sides for SS(14%total) In Mn about 4% for work Comp(farm rate), and roughly 25% state and feds. That’s about a 43% reduction in income. $23X.67=15.41.
you all calling them independent contractors? might be on you to prove.
