Central Kansas | One of my landlords told me of a calf he had years ago. He said it weighed 35 lbs and it wasn't a twin. He had to baby it along for a while, but finally got it going good. He sold his calves after they were weaned and most were around 500#. They pulled the little one off and sold him separate and he was only about 350#. My landlord said another guy at the sale kinda snickered when the little one went through the ring, but my landlord said laugh all you want but he's the only calf that weaned at 10x his birth weight! We had one last spring that was probably in the mid 40's, didn't weigh him though. Went to grass with him and his momma died halfway through the summer so he was orphaned which didn't help. He never did grow right, sold him this past fall and he was only about 150#. He looked like a month old calf, except he had bigger ears and just looked older than his size. | |
