If I am just going nitrogen (or nitrogen and sulfur) I would use the tubes that stream it out behind the closing wheels 2 inches on each side of the seed. If I were going with a "starter" that contained P or K I would then use an actual 2x2 (2 inches to the side of the seed and 2 inches below the seed level) coulter system.

Agree. I would rig up a row or 2 and small tank and try the dribble method if not equipped with anything else.
